<image:title>Afterwork Series for Everyone - Making Wearables Series: Intro to Designing and Prototyping with the Flora</image:title>
<image:caption>There’s been a lot of buzz about wearables. Aside from Google Glass, Fitbits, Jawbones, smart watches, what about talking shoes, light up gloves, lullabye singing pillowcases… What is something you’d imagine? You can never dream too big, but first mastering some technical skills can help you live it. In this two session workshop, we’ll facilitate a fun brainstorming around creative wearable possibilities, and provide an introduction to the Flora platform and how to program in that Arduino compatible environment. We’ll start out with a simple interactive t-shirt project (or you can bring in your own clothing item) which incorporates a single sensor to program. Included with the workshop is the circuit board, sensors, and other fabrication materials for you to keep. Get creative and take home what you make. (Note: If you’ve never sewn with conductive thread before, we recommend you take our Crafting with Soft Circuits workshop first). Series of Two Wednesdays, 5/20 & 5/27, 6:30-9:00PM Register Here: https://intromakingweareables2.eventbrite.com</image:caption>

<image:title>Interactive Pop Up Books - Transforming Paper: Interactive Pop-Up Books Hours</image:title>
<image:caption>Wednesdays Aug 5 thru Aug 26th Come every Weds or just pick and choose your days to pop-in. Pop Up books may seem like magic, but it’s a sleight of hand you can master. We are devoting the month of August to creating with paper. Every Wednesday you can pop-in to our space to learn how to transform 2D paper into 3D mechanisms. We will be going over basic techniques and slowly build on your repertoire of complex folds, pull-tabs, pop-outs, pull-downs and many more fun mechanisms to tell immersive stories. In the first hour we will be making the pop-up element of the day, the second hour is about iterating, discovering and playing with different complex pop-up elements and thinking about how to integrate electronics into our pop-up books. We may even use digital fabrication techniques like vinyl cutting. We will have some snacks and endless resources for you (all the paper materials, cutting tools, extra craft pieces and electronics). You just bring yourself and your curiosity. For Ages 18+ REGISTER HERE: http://interactivepopupbooks.eventbrite.com</image:caption>

<image:title>Girlpower - Girl power time.</image:title>
<image:caption>Monday: DIY TECHNOLOGY: From bat signal headbands to flashlight barrettes or massaging scarves, we’ll pose questions around the future of fashion accessories and prosthetics while challenging you to explore making with new materials. We’ll introduce the basics of circuit design and techniques in crafting with soft circuits. You’ll try your own hand at sewing with conductive thread to create simple circuits that drive lights or motors to enliven your own accessory project. Explore and play with new materials and tools at our makerspace, and understand why engineering circuits matters in our increasingly electronic world. Tuesday: PROGRAMMING WEARABLES: Discover the animating world of microcontrollers and e-textiles with an introduction to the Lilypad Arduino. Our theme of the day will be considering the contexts of invention. Get creative and hands-on with programming soft circuits to design a T-shirt that can be a walking flashlight. This workshop includes your keeping of all parts and materials: sensors, Lilypad microcontroller, and T-shirt (if you have a item of clothing you’d prefer to transform, bring it in and we’ll coach you in how to re-invent it). Wednesday: 3D MODELING & PRINTING JEWELRY: Our theme of the day will be prototyping for hands. You will be challenged to design and 3D print an accessory that fits your finger. This accessory could be purely decorative or functional. We can even explore how it might embed electronics or be an enclosure (hidden compartment). Everyday, walk home with what you make! REGISTER FOR SERIES HERE: June 29 to July 1 https://makerygirlpower.eventbrite.com Plus a Shareable Flyer that can be printed or passed on</image:caption>

<image:caption>Mondays July 11 & July 18, 7-9PM The massive amounts of data that we produce as a culture is steadily rising year after year. This evergrowing sea of information needs to be understood. Since we are all naturally visual people, the best way to understand this data is to graphically interpret it as data visualizations. Over the course of these two evenings, we will go over the entire data pipeline. First sourcing publicly available data sets. Then cleaning and analyzing these data sets to pull out the points of interest. And finally designing visualizations based on our findings for a specific audience. The first portion of this workshop will be focused on the data and pre-existing tools like Illustrator and Datavisual to quickly visualize this data. The second half will be entirely interactive interpretations of the data for the web using JavaScript, D3js*, and we will also be covering how to get live data from APIs**. Please bring your own laptop. For Ages 18+ Register here: https://createdataviz.eventbrite.com About your Instructor Danne Woo: For more than a decade Danne has been working as a graphic designer, interaction designer and web developer in New York for a large number of corporate clients. <image:title>Tech DIY Exhibit and Workshop - Mom and Kids: Special Tech D.I.Y Workshop</image:title>
<image:caption>Saturday, Aug 13th, Ji Sun Lee will show kids, ages 9 - 14, how electrical circuits work by having them create one. Lee has created a series of technology kits for moms to teach their daughters and sons the basics of technology. Proceeds will be going to a single mother's shelter in Korea. Remember those old science kits? Kids get their own kits that include step-by-step instruction, a sewing kit with conductive thread, a small LED light, and a coin battery. Along with the artist, they manufacture a customized rabbit or ghost with a blinking eye. Here art is used to teach technology. Stop by and bring your kids!
