Intro to Creating Data Visualizations
Mondays July 11 & July 18, 7-9PM
The massive amounts of data that we produce as a culture is steadily rising year after year. This evergrowing sea of information needs to be understood. Since we are all naturally visual people, the best way to understand this data is to graphically interpret it as data visualizations.
Over the course of these two evenings, we will go over the entire data pipeline. First sourcing publicly available data sets. Then cleaning and analyzing these data sets to pull out the points of interest. And finally designing visualizations based on our findings for a specific audience. The first portion of this workshop will be focused on the data and pre-existing tools like Illustrator and Datavisual to quickly visualize this data. The second half will be entirely interactive interpretations of the data for the web using JavaScript, D3js*, and we will also be covering how to get live data from APIs**.
Please bring your own laptop.
